A rolling series of themed competitions (xTechSearch, xTech|Inversion, xTechHumanoid, xTech|Adaptive Strike, hackathons, xTech|Live events) each with its own submission window announced on xtech.army.mil.
Prize amounts are set per competition and change every round; there is no standing ceiling. Concrete published example - xTech|Inversion (submission window 3-30 June 2026): Phase 1 up to 12 finalists at $20K each; Phase 2 up to 5 winners at $152K each; Phase 3 up to 5 selectees receiving 'Up to $300K in SBIR Contracts', totalling 'Up to $1M in cash prizes; Phase I SBIR Contracts: Up to $1.5M'. xTech|Inversion eligibility: 'Small, for-profit, independent U.S. businesses' with majority equity 'directly owned and controlled' by US citizens, permanent residents or other qualifying small businesses, and which 'together with the affiliates, must not have more than 500 employees'. Non-profits excluded. Proposals must not be substantially the same as another funded or pending proposal. Some competitions (e.g. G-TEAD) open to large businesses and allied foreign companies. SAM.gov registration and a UEI are required to receive prize money or the follow-on SBIR contract.

- Phase 2: selected finalists advance to a pitch event.
- Phase 3: present proof-of-concept; winners may receive follow-on SBIR contracts.
