The minimum grant considered is £250,000. SMEs working independently may receive a grant covering between 35% and 50% of eligible project costs; large companies working independently between 25% and 40%. Consortiums of 2-6 companies may receive slightly higher rates in certain circumstances. Projects should represent at least £1 million of company spend.

You must co-fund 50%.

Who can apply

Business must be based in, or planning to locate in, Scotland in the area served by Scottish Enterprise. Project must represent a significant innovation for the company and could not proceed (or would be significantly delayed or reduced) without the funding. Sole traders and charities are ineligible, as are companies relying primarily on third parties for the R&D or that have already started work. Note: the separate SMART: SCOTLAND grant scheme is currently on hold.
